Does anyone have this CD? Is it reeeally good? michaelshelley.net/2012/I'm familiar with most of the artists, but I'd basically be paying $75.00 for the Minus 5 song, interestingly, the only song I don't know. It sucks being a completist.

I will, when they send their marathon swag out. I was kind of surprised that Robbie didn't contribute a song, seeing as Michael Shelley is a fan and the concept seems right up Robbie's alley.

It sucks being a completist. I chose it as one of my premiums, but I didn't get it yet (not surprising, Tom Scharpling's 2011 premium 7" still hasn't arrived 13 months later). However, Shelley played a lot of the songs during his Marathon show that I volunteered during (the one with Todd-a-Phonic Todd cohosting), so if you listen to that archive you'll get a good sampling of what's on the premium. PS You'll also get a t-shirt for your $75 PPS To confirm something from another thread, yes the Baseball Project was selling the new 7". No I did not buy one.

Thanks! I knew I'd get some replies here. I was wondering if it was too late, but since they haven't been sent out yet, I guess I'm in good shape.

I chose this premium too but haven't received it yet. So you should get it because then, if it blows, we can all whine about it together. I will, of course, blame pro since he recommended it. Edit 1: Also, it's pretty much assured that the C-T Philharmonic, Minus 5, Joe Pernice, Amy Rigby, and YLT tracks will be worthwhile. Edit 2: Say, pro, am I right in suspecting that the song they have listed as "Ring Ring" is actually "Rings"? Dumb song, except Leo can improve anything.

I listened to the samples and it is the ABBA song "Ring Ring". I didn't know until I read Michael's liner notes that Neil Sedaka and Phil Cody got their songwriting credits by translating the lyrics from Swedish to English. Pardon me while I impress my friends with that knowledge. www.youtube.com/watch?v=TL0EoXdpOqg&ob=av2nSuffer through the 15 second ad. You'll be glad you did.

Way to completely overlook the copious liner notes, JL! Hadn't heard that ABBA song before; thanks for the edifimacation. Incidentally, I wore an outfit just like Agnetha's to work one day last week. Also, Bjorn = even creepier than I remembered.

Thanks! I knew I'd get some replies here. I was wondering if it was too late, but since they haven't been sent out yet, I guess I'm in good shape. I volunteered at FMU yesterday and I confirmed that you will get it even if you ordered it post-Marathon. They had a bunch of the Shelley premiums there, it was very tempting to pocket one, but I kept my integrity and held fast to my assignment of stuffing envelopes with "JM in the AM" magnets.

Do the JM (Jewish Music) in the AM magnets look at all amusing? They definitely earn their money for the station, but I wish for them what they wish for themselves. Next year in Jerusalem.

I like the Super Hits CD better than I thought it would. The Minus 5 track is excellent, and most of the other material -- especially "Side One" -- is good too. The Bo-Keys' version of "Stuck in the Middle with You" surpasses the original, which is no mean feat.

I like the Super Hits CD better than I thought it would. That's a ringing endorsement of my recommendation if ever I heard one! Ain't got my swag yet. Technical difficulties apparently. If you pledged enough to get the 45 adaptor and/or the turntable mat or anything else that takes a while to produce, they're waiting until all your stuff is ready before sending it out. The CDs are all burned in-house and the t-shirts are made quickly too, so the smaller orders go out first. If there is a really long delay on one of your items (hello, Tom Scharpling) they will mail your stuff in two shipments, but I think they try to minimize that to save on postage.

Man, that's boolshit. Don't give WFMU any money EVER.
