Here's Robbie on the Michael Shelley show on Saturday, listen to two new songs and then thrill to Michael not being able to reach Robbie on the phone, then listen to another song, then you'll get the interview. It's a good one, featuring a dramatic unexpected visitor to Robbie's front door, plus info on a new project that will no doubt excite some of you. Plus some out-of-nowhere swipes at Paul McCartney and Scandinavia by Michael. wfmu.org/flashplayer.php?version=2&show=52270&archive=90696&starttime=0:40:24

Wow, nobody is discussing Robbie's new CD. ?
I just got it and on the first listen the songs that caught my ear are: When you Get to The Bottom (love the last long "home"), Sometimes the Grass is Really Greener (like all the lyrics- sounds sincere), and Rose of Summer (love the pretty guitar break). What do you guys think?

I just want to point out the very unusual fact that the LP and the CD have almost completely different song orders. I knew that the LP had to lose 'Imogene' for length reasons, but I didn't expect such a shuffling. The only song that keeps its position is 'The Many Disguises of God'.

What do you think of this record, Dan? For whatever it's worth, Gone Away Backward is easily my favorite album of the year. The whole thing strikes me as brilliant. The songwriting, the musicianship, the singing, it all kills, song after song. And the sound of this Albini recording is as close to perfect as I could imagine. Five thumbs up out of five.

Nice! I only got it recently and have been playing 3 songs over and over, and love them. Long I Ride, When you Get to the Bottom, and Sometimes the Grass is really Greener. Love the bluegrass.
I was a little disappointed that so many of the songs had already been recorded (from the MP3 set). So there wasn't enough new songwriting. And the new recordings of those old songs don't really have a new approach/sound.

Isaiah 1:4
Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward.

Isaiah 1:4 Ah sinful nation, a people laden with iniquity, a seed of evildoers, children that are corrupters: they have forsaken the LORD, they have provoked the Holy One of Israel unto anger, they are gone away backward. Isn't that Samuel L. Jackson's speech from Pulp Fiction?
