Next week in a rare small club appearance ... Cowboy Junkies, Lee Harvey Osmond, Jeff Bird and my buddy Tony Quarrington (probably doing Hank Williams covers) and more. All for just $30.

When I first glanced at that I thought it said Merle and KISS, which would be a much better show

Who the hell would name their kid Lee Harvey Osmond? Or was it his idea?

Allison Moorer and Steve Earle last night at the Old Town School of Folk Music. She played an opening set of about half an hour, which was terrific, but too short. He came out with a whole Rick Rubin/Hasidic Rabbi look, and played for about 90 minutes. He played a good mix of new stuff and old stuff, and featured some songs from a soon-to-be-released tribute to Townes Van Zandt, all of which sounded great. Allison joined him for a couple of songs, which were the highlight of the evening. Overall, it was a great evening, but Steve Earle still has not mastered the art of talking TO his audience, as opposed to talking AT them. It felt distinctly like a lecture at times, and this is coming from someone who agrees with many of his political views.

Agreed, and he needs to stop reheating lines he's been using for years and years. He seems to think that everything that comes out of his mouth needs to be quotable, at the expense of spontaneity.

It felt distinctly like a lecture at times, and this is coming from someone who agrees with many of his political views. I was hoping married life had softened some of that. Guess not. The last time I saw him - just before they got married - he was lecturing the drunks in the crowd. And I agree, he needs new things to talk about instead of the same ole, same ole.

I agree with all of the above though I'll still love going to his shows and listening to his music.
Isn't Allison amazingly beautiful in person. I had the pleasure of seeing her in the 3rd row and I couldn't help but be enamored by her beauty. Her voice was incredible as well.
I'm sure Steve made his joke about marrying up when she came out to do a couple of songs with him.
